Michel Bergeron is ethicist to the University Research Ethics Board at Université de Montréal, acting as a resource for professors, researchers, students and research ethics committees, as well as for the Office of Research Services and Development. He develops and participates in training offered to the university community and affiliated institutions. He is the main author of on-line courses on research ethics involving humans offered by the Bioethics Program of the Faculty of Medicine at Université de Montréal. He has been active for more than 12 years as the expert in ethics or as REB chair in the biomedical, health sciences, humanities, social sciences and engineering fields. He teaches, organizes workshops, gives training sessions and speaks at conferences about bioethics and research ethics at local, national and international venues.
Michel Bergeron was chair of the University Research Ethics Subcommittee of the Conference of Rectors and Principals of Quebec Universities (SC-ÉRU/CRÉPUQ) from 2004 to 2007 and is now member of the executive. He coordinates two inter-institutional working groups of the Programme de Valorisation des INnovations et du Capital Intellectuel (VINCI) at Université de Montréal, one on data and biobanks and on derived research products, and the other on the ethical aspects of knowledge transfer.
Michel Bergeron worked many years as a chemist in the public and private sectors. He was Director of Research Services at Saint-Paul University (1990-2001). He has an M.A. in theology with a specialization in ethics from Saint-Paul University/University of Ottawa and is currently completing a Ph.D. in applied humanities, specialization in bioethics, at Université de Montréal.
