Presidents Alain Beaudet of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Suzanne Fortier of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and Chad Gaffield of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) are pleased to announce two new appointments to the membership of the Interagency Advisory Panel on Research Ethics (PRE).

Dr. Janice Singer is Senior Research Officer in Software Engineering at the National Research Council Canada.

Both appointments are effective November 1, 2008.

PRE is a committee of 12 members drawn from across the country to represent a wide spectrum of disciplines and experience in ethics of human research. Current members are from varied backgrounds spanning research involving Aboriginal peoples, political science, medicine, clinical research, psychology, public health, engineering, bioethics and law, as well as research participants and research administration. Biographical information on current PRE members can be found at

PRE was created in November 2001 as a joint initiative of CIHR, NSERC and SSHRC (the Agencies). PRE is mandated to advise the Agencies on the development of the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS). The TCPS sets out basic principles and processes for human research ethics for those institutions receiving Agency funding.
