Goals and Rationale of the TCPS

The TCPS:

• addresses the interdependent duties to research subjects shared by researchers, institutions and Research Ethics Boards
• articulates ethical norms that transcend disciplinary boundaries
• harmonizes the ethics review process
• seeks to avoid imposing one disciplinary perspective on others, while expressing the shared principles and wisdom of researchers in diverse fields
• updates some norms, while encouraging continued reflection and thoughtful consensus on more contentious ethical issues.
