Tutorial: Ethical Conduct of Research involving Humans: Section 5: Inclusion in Research

Research Involving Women

Gender equality has meant greater interest in research pertaining to women's lives and experiences, the psychology of women, violence against women and children, and women's health. Women must be included in research so they can gain the same benefits and share the same burdens as men. Precluding pregnant women or those of childbearing potential from the right to decide whether to participate in research is an imposition on the women's autonomy and denies the individual woman, and women as a group, the benefits of research. The TCPS requires that women not be excluded from research solely on the basis of gender or reproductive capacity.
